MASCOTS THAT HONOR: LOUP CITY OPTION 2

Posted on February 25, 2008 - Filed Under MASCOTS THAT HONOR, Indian Mascots |

We have heard from Loup City about our proposed “new” Red Raider mascot, and apparently you are not too thrilled about it. We have another option for your consideration, which incorporates your existing mascot, but more culturally appropriate. Loup City is a predominately Polish community. We have “morphed” your existing mascot and applied it to your desire to honor felonious conduct. Hence we introduce the POLISH PIRATES!

Please don’t accuse the artist of racism. My son is equal parts Polish (1/4th) and Indian (1/4th Omaha tribe).

As an alumni of Loup City High School I think that this would be much better than the current mascot. I also believe it would allow for more inclusion of the mascot than is currently used. One of the most popular pep-band songs was “Polish Medley” rather than any racially based chants. I feel that a Polish Pirate would be a vast improvement.

I will strongly support that while it is unintended, our current mascot is horrifically racist and that it would beneficial to switch it to nearly anything else. I also feel that a change of mascot could have the potential to boost the school spirit by brining in something new.
