Rachael Mendoza is an enrolled member of the Siksika Nation, which is part of the Blackfoot Confederacy which also consists of the Piikani and Kainaiwa of southern Alberta and the Blackfeet in the State of Montana. Ms. Mendoza is a junior currently attending the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and is an Education major. She will also finish up her Native American minor at the end of this semester. She was recently awarded the Blizak and MacAllister Scholarships at UNO. She is a mother of three children, ages 8, 6 and 5. She is actively involved in Inter-Tribal Student Council at the UNO, as the secretary of the group. Rachael also sings at the drum with the Maverick Renegades (Native UNO drum group). She works as a tutor for the N.I.C.E. (Native Indians for College Education) program at Omaha North High School for the past two years. She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and serves as a teacher in Relief Society women’s organization.
